Bolton welcome Premier League giants Liverpool to the Macron Stadium in a bid to cause a major FA Cup upset in their fourth round replay.

Departing captain Steven Gerrard – who will move to La Galaxy at the end of the season after a 26-year association with the club – will make his 700th Liverpool appearance should he play a part.

Head to head

Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the first encounter between the two teams.

Statistics

Match facts

  • Liverpool’s Sturridge scored eight goals in 12 games during a loan spell at Bolton in 2011
  • The only Reds player to score an FA Cup hat-trick against the Trotters was Jimmy Walsh, who netted three in a 4-1 win at Bolton in February 1924
  • Liverpool have won all of the last nine meetings at Anfield since Bolton won 3-2 in the League Cup in December 2003
  • Bolton were the first winners of the cup at Wembley, doing so in the ‘White Horse’ final of 1923. They defeated West Ham 2-0, with the Londoners being captained by George Kay, who went on to manage Liverpool
  • Since the 1958 final, Wanderers have reached the semi-final twice, losing to Aston Villa on penalties in 2000 and 5-0 to Stoke City in 2011

Team news

Bolton’s squad is depleted by injuries, with a hamstring tear seeing Darren Pratley join the likes of Adam Bogdan, Emile Heskey, Marc Tierney, Mark Davies and Max Clayton on the sidelines. Only players registered prior to the original tie are eligible so Trotters boss Neil Lennon is unable to call on new signings Ben Amos, Adam Le Fondre, Rochinha, Barry Bannan, Simeon Slavchev, Filip Twardzik or Saidy Janko.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is fully fit after sitting out the weekend with a tight hamstring. Daniel Sturridge, injured for five months before scoring in Saturday’s 2-0 win, is likely to be on the bench.
