After winning Ballon d’Or earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo got another personal accolade to demonstrate how great has his 2016 been. He beat Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann to the prestigious FIFA “The Best” Football Award.
FIFA, the world governing body of football, has got a new set of colossally important gongs to hand out on a yearly basis to the great and good of the sport – ‘The Best Fifa Awards’ after surrendering custody of the illustrious Ballon d’Or. Having merged their ‘World Player of the Year’ award with France Football’s golden ball in 2010, FIFA went back to having their own set of accolades. The two bodies each count the ‘Fifa Ballon d’Or’ awards handed out between 2010 and 2015 as part of their own history.
