Klopp snaps over Sturridge questions

The Reds' boss, who oversaw a 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, reacted in a rather tetchily when quizzed about Daniel Sturridge's performance in the game.

Daniel Sturridge delivered a brilliant performance to give Liverpool all three points at AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, but his manager was displeased with reporters focusing on his exploits.

The English international pulled off a brilliant back heel to set up Roberto Firmino before scoring the match winner with a firm header on the cusp of halftime. Twice denied by the post in the second half, the former Chelsea man could easily have scored four overall.

Despite naming a considerably weakened team after their Europa league exploits in midweek, Sturridge’s heroics meant Jurgen Klopp was able to record yet another crucial three points as the club continued its hunt for European qualification.

The German manager was however not happy with how the press focused on the striker, and was at pains to explain that the win was more about the team than Sturridge’s brilliance.

“You want to talk about one player at the first moment? He was very good, but if you’re not interested in the game…” Klopp retorted.

“He’s a brilliant player. He had a very good game.

“This is a game – there are 11 players in different positions and you come to ask about one player. Each player had influence. It’s a team game.

“I enjoyed the game of Daniel Sturridge, but starting with a question like this – I can’t understand.”

When reporters tried to argue that it was Sturridge’s goal that had won the game, the former Dortmund gaffer grew even more flabbergasted.

“That’s how you understand football? You really work in sports? One player can win a game? We live on different planets.

“Always when I say something, you make like this [shaking your head]. I know you disagree! I disagree with what you say, but I don’t do this.”
