New York Mets turned a tied game into a rout in Washington, winning 16-7 after a 10-run burst in the 12th inning at Nationals Park. The decisive frame looked like a hitting parade. Carson Benge opened the scoring with an RBI single, then Vidal Bruján followed with an infield knock. Brett Baty shot a run-scoring single, Marcus Semien and A.J. Ewing added RBI singles, and the Mets kept the line moving.

Benge returned for a two-run double, and Bo Bichette capped the avalanche with a two-RBI double to deep center. By the time the inning finally paused, New York had sent waves of hitters and led 16-6. Washington pulled one back in the bottom half for the 16-7 final.

Bo Bichette stuffed the box score at 3-for-6 with a home run, a double and three RBI. Brett Baty went 2-for-6 with a homer and three RBI, backing up his extra-inning single. Carson Benge posted a 3-for-6 night with a double and three RBI, scoring three times.

There was help everywhere: Semien drove in two, Ewing had two hits and an RBI, and Luis Torrens chipped in a run-scoring double. New York finished with a .353 average and a .942 OPS on the night.

Washington’s long night at Nationals Park

James Wood led the Nationals with three hits, a double and two runs scored. CJ Abrams added two hits and an RBI, while Joey Wiemer reached five times with two hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch, driving in two. José Tena doubled in a run but struck out three times.

The big issue was conversion. Washington left 35 on base by the event log and went 12-for-46 overall, despite drawing eight walks. Four errors added fuel to the extra-innings fire.

Pitching notes and numbers

Mets starter Christian Scott worked 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and three earned runs before the bullpen took over. Austin Warren and Luke Weaver combined for three scoreless innings, Huascar Brazobán logged two innings with one unearned run, and Craig Kimbrel closed it out. New York pitchers allowed seven runs, only five earned.

Jake Irvin started well for Washington with 6 K in 4.0 innings, yielding one earned run and three total. The late collapse came when Paxton Schultz was tagged for seven runs in one third of an inning, and infielder Jorbit Vivas took the mound to finish the frame and allowed three more. On the team ledger, the Nationals owned a small OBP edge early, but the Mets won the slugging battle .549 to .391 and the OPS battle .942 to .788.
