Brighton have started the season very positively. After five matches, they are third in the table with three wins, one draw and one defeat, including a major upset last weekend when they beat Arsenal 3-0 at home. What particularly stands out about this team is the number of different nationalities in the dressing room.
A big world in a small one
The wealth of different languages and cultures is certainly what distinguishes this Brighton side. This season they set a very interesting record: in the match against Coventry City (12 September 2026), among the 15 outfield players used (excluding goalkeepers), all 15 were of different nationalities. The closest to that were Brentford and Sunderland, each with 13 players of different nationalities on the pitch.
If we look at the complete matchday sheets, with all the players on the bench including those who did not feature, Brighton once again hold the record. In the aforementioned match against Coventry, and in the most recent match against Arsenal, 18 of the 20 players were of different nationalities. Interestingly, in the Arsenal match the goalkeepers (first-choice and reserve) provided two new nationalities to offset the duplication of French players (Boscagli/Rutter) in the outfield, leaving that match level with Coventry. Following these fixtures is Brentford, who have reached 16 of 20 players on four occasions this season (against Sunderland, Bournemouth, Leeds and Chelsea).

Even so, given their performances, they have every right to be optimistic. In the Premier League, they have the most goals scored, the highest xG, the most big chances created and the highest average possession, while ranking second for total shots on target and SofaScore rating.
By contrast, their rankings in the more defensive/physical categories are considerably lower; for example, 19th out of 20 for possession and 17th out of 20 for tackles, which suggests that the team bases its dominance almost exclusively on possession and creativity, rather than on pressing or one-on-one duels.
