This summer, Sofascore is taking its Player of the Season awards to the street level. Across cities like Barcelona, London, Munich, Rome, Frankfurt, Lyon, Metz and beyond, billboards now showcase the players who delivered the most outstanding performances throughout the 2024/25 season – based entirely on our data-driven Sofascore Rating.
Barcelona’s Icons: Raphinha and Alexia Putellas
In Barcelona, the campaign celebrates Raphinha and Alexia Putellas.
Raphinha topped La Liga with a 7.80 average rating, a season in which scored 18 goals and provided 9 assists in 36 league games. He was one of the most important players to lead tth team to titles in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa.
Meanwhile, Alexia Putellas led Liga F with an 8.15 average Sofascore Rating. She scored 16 goals and added 11 assists to her score. She showed why she remains one of world football’s most complete midfielders.
What the Player of the Season Trophy Means
Our Player of the Season trophy isn’t chosen by fan polls or expert panels, it’s earned through performance. Every match, every action, every stat feeds into the Sofascore Rating. Consistent quality over a full campaign is the only path to claim the trophy.
The Only Football Award That Counts
At Sofascore, we stand by our Player of the Season slogan – The only football award that counts. It’s more than a tagline; it reflects our belief that football recognition should be earned through objective, season-long performance. No campaigns, no voting bias, just facts backed by data. Every winner of our Player of the Season trophy is chosen using the same transparent criteria, ensuring that whether you’re a forward breaking scoring records or a midfielder dictating play, the recognition is based just on what happens on the pitch.
From Zadar to CBS: Global Recognition, Data at the Core
The campaign’s impact isn’t limited to cityscapes. This June, Sofascore hosted its first-ever Player of the Season Award Show in Zadar, opening the Sunset Sports Festival 2025. The ceremony was hosted by Kate Scott and football legend Peter Schmeichel, under the creative direction of CBS’s Emmy-winning producer Pete Radovich. This show will exclusively be aired on CBS this August.
Ahead of the show, Sofascore trophies were displayed in a circle around Zadar’s iconic Greeting to the Sun monument, each accompanied by the winner’s photo and season rating. It was a visual tribute to consistency and contribution on the pitch.
Celebrating the Game’s Best, Everywhere
From the stage in Zadar to the streets of Barcelona, London, Rome, Munich and many more, Sofascore’s Player of the Season campaign sends a clear message – exceptional football deserves to be recognised everywhere. The billboards bring our winners closer to fans in their own cities, while the award show puts their achievements on a global platform.
