Club America: Veiga Ends Scoring Drought With Brace of Assists

Raphael Veiga once again shone for Club América in Mexico. The former Palmeiras player scored a goal and provided two assists in the 3-0 win over Atlético San Luis in the fourth round of the Apertura Tournament. The noteworthy detail is that the midfielder had not contributed to a goal in 16 matches.

Number 23, named Sofascore’s man of the match (rating 8.8), opened the scoring at 26 minutes of the first half with a beautiful shot from outside the box. In the second half, Veiga took on the role of provider, assisting Oscar Perea and Diego Arriaga, who completed the final score.

The result kept Club América at the top of the Liga MX table with ten points.

“It was a very important win. I’m very happy to have helped with a goal and two assists, but the most important thing is the result and keeping the team up front. We know the season is just getting started and that we still have a lot ahead of us,” said Raphael Veiga to Sofascore News.

In addition to the goal and two assists, the 31-year-old midfielder also made five key passes in the match, took five shots (three of them on target), and recovered possession twice.

Raphael Veiga says he is now adapted to Mexican football

On loan from Palmeiras until December 2026, Veiga arrived in Mexican football last February, toward the end of last season. The Brazilian has now played 27 matches, scored four goals, and provided five assists.

“When I arrived, the team was already towards the end of the season and I had to adapt not only to the group, but to the system of Mexican football and the climate. But this time, I was able to do pre-season with the squad and that helped a lot. I now feel much more adapted to Mexican football, the city, the club, and my teammates. I’m feeling good. We have big goals ahead and I want to keep helping América fight for all the titles,” the player stressed.

Valued at $7.5 million by Palmeiras, Raphael Veiga is one of the great idols in Verdão’s history. He won 11 titles (including two Libertadores), scored 108 goals, provided 54 assists, and played 379 matches for the club.
