André started the 2026/27 season on a high at Wolverhampton. The Brazilian midfielder, formerly of Fluminense, scored one of the goals in the 3-0 victory over Port Vale this Friday (7), for the first round of the English League Cup, and was among the Wolves’ standout performers at Molineux Stadium.

In addition to his goal, the midfielder played a significant role in his side’s build-up and finished the team’s first official match of the season with a Sofascore rating of 8.1, the second highest of the match. The performance highlights André’s importance to Wolverhampton’s project after relegation to the Championship and the contract renewal signed by the Brazilian until 2030.

André’s numbers in Wolverhampton’s win

Wolverhampton controlled most of the match and built their win as early as the first half. Adam Armstrong opened the scoring, while André struck in the 34th minute to net the home side’s second goal. Fernando López completed the scoreline before halftime.

More than the goal, however, André’s performance drew attention for his involvement in all facets of the game. According to Sofascore data, the Brazilian completed 46 out of 50 passes, with a 92% accuracy rate.

The midfielder also showed high accuracy in distributing passes across various zones of the pitch. He completed 21 of 23 passes in the opposition half (91% accuracy) and 25 of 27 passes in his own half (93% accuracy).

André also demonstrated his ability to speed up ball circulation with long passes. The Brazilian completed 8 out of 10 attempted long balls, achieving an 80% success rate.

Defensively, the midfielder also posted significant numbers. André registered seven defensive contributions, with four tackles won from four attempts, two clearances, one shot block, four ball recoveries, and six out of six ground duels won. In aerial duels, he won the only one he contested.

The Brazilian was also involved in the move that led to the third goal. In the 43rd minute, André found Rodrigo Gomes with a pass to the right wing. The striker set up Fernando López, who finished low to complete the 3-0 victory.

This strong performance comes after André made an important decision about his future. Despite Wolves’ relegation to the Championship, the Brazilian chose to remain at the club and signed a new deal until 2030, with the option to extend for another season.

Signed in August 2024 after developing his entire professional career at Fluminense—where he played a key role in the club’s 2023 Copa Libertadores triumph—André has established himself in the Wolves’ midfield. Overall, he has made 74 appearances for the club over his first two seasons in England.

Progression to the second round of the English League Cup gives Wolverhampton the chance to keep advancing in the tournament, but the club’s main mission this season is in the Championship.
