Ivan Bešlić at Change Makers 2025: Leadership Lessons from Sofascore

The Change Makers conference gathered leading business figures and experts to share perspectives on the future of leadership and corporate growth. Representing Sofascore was Ivan Bešlić, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, who joined the panel “What Leaders Can Learn from Each Other” alongside Ivan Paić from Končar. The session was moderated by journalist and communication consultant Saša Ćeramilac.

The discussion contrasted two perspectives: an established company with decades of tradition, and a young, fast-growing platform with international reach.

Brazil First, U.S. Next

Bešlić underlined that Sofascore is not preparing for a sale, but instead focusing on key global markets.

“We are not in the process of selling, and a sale is not our primary plan. Brazil is our number one market, and the U.S. is our next most important market. We want to expand in the U.S. with our own resources, but at some point, we may need to find a strategic partner there. It is a big, but very specific market.”

The Challenge of Growing Organizations

He also shared how scaling affects decision-making inside a company.

“As organizations grow, decisions slow down. The slower management receives questions, the slower it makes decisions, and those decisions are not as fast as before.”

Building for the Long Term

Reflecting on the future of Sofascore and startups in general, Bešlić compared them to traditional corporations.

“A company that has been operating for 100 years can rely on continuity, even as boards and ownership change. In startups, we still don’t have proof of how long they can last. But we are moving in that direction. This year, a colleague who has been with us for many years became Chairwoman of the Board. We are building towards a point where the company can function without Zlatko Hrkać and myself.”

A Vision for Sustainable Growth

For Sofascore, these insights go beyond business talk. They reflect a leadership approach shaped by global ambition and preparing the company for the future. With Brazil as its strongest market and the U.S. as the next major step, Sofascore continues its journey as both a global sports platform and a Croatian success story.
