Ivan Bešlić on HRT: How Sofascore Became the World’s Leading Sports Data Platform

Sofascore’s co-founder and CSO, Ivan Bešlić, was recently a guest on the popular HRT show Druga strana, sharing how the platform built the world’s largest football database, introduced game-changing player ratings, and continues to sprint ahead of the competition.

In an episode focused on innovation and leadership in tech, Ivan Bešlić offered a behind-the-scenes look at what makes Sofascore more than just a live score app – or as we call it, a platform.

“We are currently the platform with the most sports data globally. We have the largest football player database in the world,” said Bešlić.

But that’s not where it stops.

From Numbers to Narrative

Ivan emphasized how Sofascore took a bold step beyond just delivering raw stats:

“What we’re also doing – and this is where we made a breakthrough – is building a brand story. We assign player ratings for each match’s best player, and in just a few weeks, we’ll be awarding ratings and trophies for the best player in every league.”

From grassroots players to global stars, Sofascore ratings have become a benchmark in modern football. And the momentum isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

“We’re constantly running a marathon. But also a sprint – because we need to be faster than the competition.”

Data Integrity Comes First

As the platform’s influence grows in the football world, so does the pressure – sometimes in amusing ways.

“We often get phone calls from agents asking us to raise a player’s rating. Our answer? ‘Just tell him to run,’” Bešlić added with a smile.

It’s a reminder that while Sofascore might live in the world of ones and zeroes, it’s driven by a clear philosophy: performance earns recognition.

Sofascore’s Ongoing Mission

Sofascore’s evolution from a live score platform to a globally trusted source of football insights has been fueled by one core belief – the game deserves depth. With millions of users around the world and partnerships across leagues, broadcasters, and analysts, the platform continues to innovate in how fans experience football. Leading the IT Conversation in Croatia

Bešlić also appeared on Druga strana as the president of Unit – the newly redesigned association formerly known as CISEx. In this role, he spoke about the broader Croatian IT scene, shedding light on both the challenges local tech companies face and the opportunities waiting to be unlocked. His insights highlighted the need for stronger collaboration, visibility on the global stage, and policies that support sustainable growth for Croatia’s tech ecosystem.
