In the opening match of the week, Osasuna emerged victorious over hosts Celta with a 2-1 score. While the visitors opened the scoring and led throughout the first half, the hosts pulled one back in the 53rd minute with a penalty. Another goal in the final minutes handed Osasuna their win. Getafe won over Alaves, with a 2-0 score. An equally fought first half saw neither of the teams netting a goal, the visitors pounced in the second half, scoring a goal and successfully converting a penalty to seal the win. 

Barcelona triumphed over Mallorca with a whooping 3-0 at Camp Nou. The hosts – who held 76% of the possession – scored one in the first half and two in the second. The relentless attack by the Catalan side proved too hard to handle for Mallorca. Real Sociedad continue their unbeaten streak with a 3-1 win over Elche. Sociedad racked up a two goal lead until just before halftime, when the visitors pulled one back. The second half was closely contested but Sociedad managed to put another in the goal, ending any hopes for Elche. Real Betis upset Atletico Madrid, snatching the win with a 0-1 at Wanda Metropolitano. Real Betis scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute and kept their lead to win the match in the midst of a bewildered home crowd. 

The most exciting matchup of the weekend was between Athletic Club and Levante, with the hosts winning the bout with 4-2. Levante’s game was thrown away early with a straight red in the 17th minute. Athletic Club scored two before the first half, taking the lead into the next. The final minutes of the game were intense, with each team scoring a goal simultaneously even into injury time. Sevilla and Girona ended their fixture on a 1-1 stalemate. The goals, however, came right at the start and the end of the match. The visitors opened the scoring in just the 2nd minute, and kept the lead until the final minutes of the match. The hosts scored the equalizer in injury time, sharing the points. 

Real Madrid had a comfortable win over Valencia with a 2-0 score. Though the hosts managed to fend off Real in the first half, the second half saw the visitors netting 2 goals to take home the three points. The final match of the weekend saw Villarreal thrashing Espanyol with a 4-1 score at home. A goal in the 35th minute and an own goal saw the hosts end the first half with a 2 goal lead. They followed with two quick goals in the second half, while the visitors could only pull one back in the final minutes of the game. 

The fixture between Rayo Vallecano and Real Oviedo was postponed, with concerns over player safety due to the state of the pitch. A new date for the fixture is yet to be confirmed.

Gorka Guruzeta was the standout for Bilbao, earning an impressive 9.1 Sofascore rating for 2 goals against Levante. Iñaki Williams also shined, contributing with 2 assists. Sevilla’s defense, led by keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos put up a performance, with Kike Salas snatching the late equalizer. Álvaro Valles stood out for Real Betis, with 5 crucial saves and a clean sheet. Real Madrid’s Álvaro Carreras turned heads with his performance, scoring the opening goal of the match.

Suspension Updates

The only red card of the weekend came between Athletic Club and Levante – with Levante’s Alan Matturo sent off with a straight red for a professional last man foul. He’s set to miss Levante’s next fixture against Valencia.
