Lorenzo Pellegrini and Roma, together once again. After weeks of negotiations and a contract that expired last June 30th, the parties have reached an agreement to continue their collaboration until June 30th, 2027. The deal is yearly and the signature is expected soon: an outcome that, until a few weeks ago, did not seem so obvious.
Pellegrini is a product of Roma’s youth academy and, after his experience at Sassuolo, returned to the capital in the summer of 2017. Since then, he has become one of the most iconic figures of the team, even wearing the captain’s armband. In February 2026, he reached 300 appearances for Roma in all competitions, a milestone celebrated by the club along with Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, and Stephan El Shaarawy.
The stats of the number 7
The statistics also tell the story of his long stay at Trigoria. In Serie A, Pellegrini has surpassed 250 appearances with Roma, while during the 2025/26 season he finished with 33 official matches, 7 goals, and 4 assists, for a total of 1,989 minutes.
His performances last season came at the end of a challenging period, marked by physical problems and questions about his future. The new agreement therefore gives him the chance to start over with a different perspective.
A relationship never simple with the fans
Pellegrini’s story with Roma has not always been straightforward, especially regarding his relationship with the fans. The midfielder has spent years in a particular position: beloved by part of the Roma supporters, strongly criticized by another. The captain’s armband and his bond with the club inevitably increased expectations of him, just as inconsistent performances and some difficult periods fueled the criticism. It’s a relationship made up of applause and boos, in which Pellegrini has never managed to win everyone over.
Gasperini reunites with Pellegrini
The midfielder’s stay is also an important decision for Gian Piero Gasperini. Pellegrini can offer experience, quality in the final third, and the ability to get into scoring positions, as well as deep knowledge of the Roma environment. The aim will be to find consistency and centrality in the new project.
The renewal for only one season still leaves the door open for a future to be assessed later. For now, however, there is one certainty: Pellegrini will continue to wear the Roma shirt at least until 2027, extending a story that began as a child and has now surpassed 300 appearances.
