Washington Nationals 11 – 4 New York Mets

The highest scoring game of last night in the National League, the Nationals crushed the Mets. Mets took the early lead in the first inning, through Reyes. After a scoreless second inning, the bottom of the 3rd granted 2 runs for the Nats. In the 4th inning, Rene Rivera hits an opposite field home run, making the score all tied up at 2-2.

We zoom over the bottom of the 5th, where the Nats have slammed 4 runs of  Mets pitcher Lugo. By the end of the 8th, the score was 11-2, leaving the Mets to smash 2 conciliations in the top of the 9th. The win helps the Nationals keep on top of NL East by a stunning 10 wins. On top of that it aids to their 3 game win streak.

On the other hand, it leaves the Mets faltering in 3rd in the NL East. There is still enough time for the Mets to get their act together. The Nats look to sweep the series tonight, at 7:08 Eastern Time.

Detroit Tigers  5 – 3 San Francisco Giants

Though the Detroit Tigers are in the American League, they played an National League side (Giants), causing the game to end up on the list.

The Tigers and The Giants faced off in Comerica Stadium, located in downtown Detroit. The Giants started it early in the 1st, Hunter Pence hit a homerun into right field, the score started off 1-0. The Tigers came back in the 2nd, courtesy of a Victor Martinez home run. Victor Martinez show up again, during the bottom of the 4th, an RBI single put to his name.

It is now 3-1 in the top of the 7th when Brandon Crawford hits a 2 run gem outside of the park, tieing the game up at 3-3. But look out, here comes the Tigers! Detroit comes up with a 2 run single later in the inning, putting them up 5-3. The game ended with the same score.

For the Giants, it means they’re sitting at the very bottom of the NL West,  with 52 losses! The Tigers are sitting in a measly 4th place in the AL Central. The second game of the series is played tonight, at 7:10 eastern time.

Miami Marlins 5 – 2 St. Louis Cardinals

The Miami Marlins played the Cardinals, in St. Louis. The early innings weren’t the most exciting, with no runs coming from either teams. Lance Lynn got through the first five innings without allowing a run, even though the Marlins got a runner on base in four of them.

The bottom of the 5th saw the Cardinals put 2 runs via a homer by Greg Garcia on the board, but the real talking point came in the next inning. Lynn first gave up 2 runners on base, as Christian Yelich stepped up to bat the Marlins fans cheered their heads off, a good omen for things to come.

It was a full count, when Yelich pulled one into the stands, a 3 run homer. A little later in the inning it was 5-2. The win keeps the Marlins in 4th in NL East, while the Cardinals are catching up to the second placed Cubs, with only 1 win away.

Chicago Cubs 5 – 6 Tampa Bay Rays

Though the Tampa Bay Rays are in the American League, they played an National League side (Cubs), causing the game to end up on the list.

The Cubs faced The Rays in Chicago last night, and it was a fantastic game, for both sides. It started in bottom of the 2nd, when the Cubs put 1 run on the scoreboard. In the top of the 3rd, Longoria hits a RBI Sac Fly, bring the game to a 1-1 tie. But once again, the main talking point comes in a multi-run inning.

It was the top of the 4th, and Tim Beckham hits a 2 run homer, putting the score at 1-3 to the Rays. It was Beckham’s 11 home run of the season. It wasn’t over yet for the Cubs, Chris Archer, on his 1st Major League hit, rolls in an RBI, making the score 1-4. Rizzo hits right between the pitcher’s leg, for 2 more runs, grounding the score at 1-6.

Through the next couple of innings, the Cubs were able to put together 4 runs, but not enough to catch up to Tampa Bay. Something to think about, as the loss sinks the Cubs below .500. The teams meet back up again today at 2:20 pm eastern time.

Philadelphia Phillies 0 – 3 Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates kept a clean slate against the Phillies, while putting 3 on the board for their own team. Jameson Taillon was free of base-runners for much of the game. Pittsburgh scored one in the top of the 3rd. In the top of the 6th, Andrew Mccutchen plants a solo homerun to left field, a gift for the majority of the Pittsburgh fans who were sitting in left field. In the top of the 8th, it’s Mccutchin again, smashing it into the stands, 0-3 for Pittsburg.

Phillies looked to rally late in the bottom of the ninth, but with a scoring baseman in position, Rivero strikes out Galvis to end the game. Both teams are in a horrible position, the Pirates sitting last in the NL Central and Phillies in 4th in the NL East. The teams meet again at 7:05 tonight.
