The longest offseason break is finally over. Congratulations to all NFL fans for making it through – the 2025 NFL season is almost here. With the Philadelphia Eagles defending the Lombardi Trophy, the hunt begins for 2026 Super Bowl LX in California.
Each division brings its own story. Some teams enter as favorites, others have the potential to surprise, and a few are worth keeping an eye on. This preview goes division by division to show what to expect once the season begins.
AFC East Preview 2025
The Buffalo Bills enter the 2025 NFL season as clear favorites in the AFC East and one of the top contenders for the Super Bowl. Josh Allen remains the center of the roster. Last year he had 46 total touchdowns with 6 interceptions, adding over 600 rushing yards, showing once again that he is one of the league’s best dual-threat quarterbacks. Receivers Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins are gone, but Allen has a history of spreading the ball around. James Cook proved last season he can be a consistent playmaker at running back, and the addition of Nick Bosa, if he can stay healthy, gives the Bills another star presence on defense.

Behind Buffalo, the division looks unsettled. The New England Patriots start a new era with Mike Vrabel returning home. Known for his offensive background, Vrabel now has second-year quarterback Drake Maye as his main project, with Stefon Diggs arriving to be the top receiving option. If Maye develops quickly, New England could push closer to playoff contention.
The Miami Dolphins come in with lower expectations than in recent years. Terron Armstead, Jalen Ramsey, and Jonnu Smith are no longer on the roster, and Tyreek Hill has openly voiced his frustration with the team’s direction. Head coach Mike McDaniel faces a critical season, and Tua Tagovailoa’s health remains a question. If results go the wrong way early, Miami could be looking at major changes, or even the franchise reset button.

And how ’bout them Jets? Aaron Rodgers was expected to lift the team when he arrived, but it seems that the team is at an even lower level. His time has been clouded by injury and uncertainty so the Jets brought in Justin Fields and new head coach Aaron Glenn. But belief in New York is not high after several disappointing campaigns. It’s unclear whether Fields can deliver enough to change the team’s outlook.
Prediction:
- Buffalo Bills
- New England Patriots
- Miami Dolphins
- New York Jets

AFC North Preview 2025
This is one of the most competitive divisions in football, filled with rivalries and quarterbacks who can change games. The Ravens look the most complete, and on paper it is their division to lose. With Lamar Jackson running the show and Derrick Henry running over defenses on the ground, the offense has the ability to take down any opponent. The biggest challenge is the schedule, which is not on their side this year. Staying healthy will be crucial, but the main ambition in Baltimore is not the division crown – it’s lifting the Lombardi Trophy.

Pittsburgh has brought in some fresh names. The defense remains one of the strongest units in the NFL, now featuring Jalen Ramsey. On offense, DK Metcalf provides a top receiving option, Pat Freiermuth is ready for a bigger role, and Jonnu Smith joins the roster. The quarterback spot is where the questions begin. Aaron Rodgers brings experience and star power, but at his age it’s unclear how much he can deliver week after week. Mike Tomlin’s leadership is still one of the team’s biggest strengths, but much depends on whether the offense can match the defense’s level.
Can a team spend all its money on three players and hope for title? Just joking Bengals fans – In Cincinnati, the spotlight remains on Joe Burrow and his connection with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The Bengals made it a priority to keep their star receivers, knowing that with Burrow throwing to them they always have a chance to win big games. The concerns are at the defensive side and if they can stop any opponent, but also with the offensive line if they can protect Burrow across a long season. On any given Sunday this team can beat the best, yet over the course of a full season, the missing pieces might hold them back.

Cleveland Browns spent last year in the headlines for the wrong reasons, but stability seems closer now. The quarterback room is crowded, with veteran Joe Flacco still around and two rookies drafted – Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Sanders drew attention during the draft process, but now must prove himself on the field. On defense, Myles Garrett leads a strong front that should keep the team competitive. Even so, given the strength of this division, reaching the playoffs would be a surprise outcome for the Browns.
Prediction:
- Baltimore Ravens
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Cleveland Browns

AFC South Preview 2025
The Houston Texans stand as the clear favorites in the AFC South. CJ Stroud had what some called a sophomore slump, but with almost 4,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, he was still productive enough to lead his team to wins. Joe Mixon is set to miss at least the first four weeks, but the surprise signing of Nick Chubb could give the offense a major boost if he is healthy. At his best, Chubb was one of the top running backs in the league during his Browns era. Nico Collins leads the receiving unit, though injuries remain a concern, and with Tank Dell possibly out for the season, Christian Kirk will be counted on heavily. The offensive line remains an issue, as Stroud was one of the most sacked quarterbacks last season. On the other side of the ball, the defense continues to be a strength, with no major changes. That stability could keep Houston steady when the offense struggles.

The Indianapolis Colts had a bold offseason, investing heavily in their defense, which could become one of the team’s strong points. Anthony Richardson remains out with injury and does not have a firm return date, leaving Daniel Jones as the starter when the season begins. Richardson was drafted with high expectations but has not yet proven himself, and even the fan base is beginning to doubt. Still, with playmakers like Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Mo Alie-Cox, there is enough talent to push for a division fight, though going much further seems unlikely.
In Jacksonville, attention is no longer only on Trevor Lawrence, who has carried the franchise tag for years. The arrival of Travis Hunter, one of the most unique draft prospects in recent memory, adds excitement. Hunter played on both sides of the ball in college, but it remains to be seen how his role will translate to the NFL. Brian Thomas Jr. is expected to be the primary receiving threat, and could become the breakout name across the league. The big question is whether Lawrence can finally play to the level of his big franchise quarterback contract. With an upgraded offensive line and a new offensive coach, this is a season where he needs to show it.

The Titans look more like a team preparing for the future than one ready to compete. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward is the name to follow, and while he has intriguing potential, expectations are moderate. He will have decent options to throw to in Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett, but overall the Titans project is more as participants than contenders this year.
Prediction:
- Houston Texans
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Indianapolis Colts
- Tennessee Titans

AFC West Preview 2025
A division with real coaching legends. One dynasty candidate team and three teams ready to steal the show. Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Jim Harbaugh, and Pete Carroll make every matchup worth watching.
The Chiefs remain the main contender in the division. After falling to the Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl, the chance at a three-peat slipped away. Still, with Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and Steve Spagnuolo forming the core trio, they are again the team to beat. Mahomes remains one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the game, able to improvise and break any defense. With Reid’s playbook and endless tricks, they are still the team to beat. The return of a healthy Rashee Rice was a positive until Rice got a 6-match suspension, but the upgrades to the offensive line should give Mahomes more protection than he had against Philadelphia. Questions remain around Travis Kelce and whether this could be his last season, but off the field he still made headlines with his engagement to Taylor Swift. So, congratulations to Tay and her Human Exclamation Point! On defense, Kansas City ranked among the top five units thanks to Spagnuolo’s experience and system and this should remain the case even this season.

The Broncos look stronger after another year under Sean Payton. Bo Nix will run the offense, and the new running backfield with RJ Harvey alongside J.K. Dobbins should add energy to the ground game. The offensive line has been reinforced, giving Nix time to connect with targets like Marvin Mims and Evan Engram. On defense, Denver addressed last year’s weakness after Buffalo ran over them in the playoffs. The addition of Dre Greenlaw from San Francisco brings leadership and stability at linebacker, raising hopes of a deeper playoff run.
The Chargers surprised many last season under new coach Jim Harbaugh, who brought an identity built on player development. Justin Herbert remains the franchise center player, with Ladd McConkey already showing strong chemistry as a target. Two rookie wide receivers could also step into roles quickly, especially with Harbaugh’s college background in developing talent. Najee Harris is motivated to prove himself at running back after poor Pittsburg run, while Keenan Allen adds veteran leadership to guide the younger group.

The Raiders are chasing big dreams, though expectations may not yet match the ambition. With Tom Brady involved in ownership and Pete Carroll on the sideline, experience is there, but what about on court? Geno Smith takes over at quarterback, while the team invested heavily in the draft, making 11 picks. Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty has the biggest expectations, while Brock Bowers continues to be one of the league’s most promising tight ends. The concerns remain in the offensive line and on a defense that lacks explosive talent. Excitement is there, but expectations not so much.
Prediction:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Denver Broncos
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Las Vegas Raiders

NFC East Preview 2025
The reigning champions, Philadelphia Eagles, begin their campaign to defend the title. With no major offseason moves and no crucial departures, they remain the team to beat. Sure, the defense lost names like C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Darius Slay, and Avonte Maddox, but GM Howie Roseman and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio showed last year they can replace stars with rookie talent. Just ask Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. On offense, Saquon Barkley is still the number one option after his historic season. Jalen Hurts silenced all doubters, while A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith can outrun any secondary. The offensive line remains one of the strongest in the league, and if the new offensive coach keeps the same rhythm, the Eagles should continue to deliver. The real question is hunger – after finally winning it all, will this generation stay focused for the next Lombardi Trophy?

The Commanders look ready to challenge. Jayden Daniels, last year’s rookie sensation, remains the key name, but more is needed for a deeper playoff run, especially on the offensive line and defense. Some offseason moves helped, but the schedule is tougher this season with upcoming games against the strong NFC North and AFC West. Last season’s 12-5 record may be optimistic, yet the playoffs should still be within reach for Dan Quinn’s team. With Deebo Samuel added to the roster, Terry McLaurin secured (and paid) as the team’s top receiver, and Austin Ekeler hoping to prove his value again, it’s go time in Washington!
The Cowboys start every season with high hopes and in the first few rounds results often kill the optimism. But this season, the hopes are not as high, before the season opener this Thursday. Brian Schottenheimer takes over as head coach and has no easy task. The passing game with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens should be reliable. But the running game is a big concern. Dallas failed to sign a top back last season when Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley were available. Now, Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams will lead the ground attack, so doubts remain. On defense, the team traded unhappy Micah Parsons who was very vocal about his departure this whole offseason. Big play names are still here, but hoping for playoff, in a division with the Eagles and the Commanders is a bit unrealistic this season.

The Giants made one of the biggest offseason signings with QB Russell Wilson, hoping to avoid another flop season. The opening schedule, however, is brutal: matchups against the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Chargers could realistically mean an 0-4 start. A strong connection between Wilson and top WR option Malik Nabers is crucial if the Giants want to stay competitive. If not, the focus will quickly shift to draft picks in 2026.
Prediction:
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Washington Commanders
- Dallas Cowboys
- New York Giants

NFC North Preview 2025
Last season, this was one of the most exciting divisions in the NFL. For a while, there was even talk that all four teams could make the playoffs. The Bears fell off, leaving a three-way battle, but the level of competition showed how open this division can be. A similar story could unfold again, with four teams entering 2025 as real contenders.
The Detroit Lions didn’t make major roster moves this offseason, so they continue as one of the strongest teams in the league. The biggest loss came in the coaching department, with both coordinators leaving for head coaching jobs. That could be hard to replace, but Dan Campbell’s fearless approach still sets the tone of the dressing room. Jared Goff will throw, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams will catch, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery will run. All four players are capable of 1,000+ yard season, making this offense a nightmare for defenses. And don’t forget TE Sam LaPorta who adds another weapon. On the other side of the ball, last year’s injuries were just to big of a hurdle to cross, yet they kept competing. Aidan Hutchinson remains the centerpiece, and if the team stays healthy, the Lions are serious Super Bowl contenders.

The Minnesota Vikings are all in on J.J. McCarthy. Last year, Sam Darnold surprisingly held the offense together, connecting well with Justin Jefferson. Now it’s McCarthy’s turn, with veteran Carson Wentz as backup. Jefferson remains one of the best receivers in football, while Aaron Jones is among the top running backs, and T.J. Hockenson has the ability to lead tight ends. The defense could have used more upgrades, but it showed last year it can support the attack. McCarthy is the key – if he delivers (J.J. to JJ), the Vikings can stay competitive.
The Green Bay Packers proved there is life after Aaron Rodgers. The question is whether Jordan Love can hold the pressure needed to carry a franchise with such a rich quarterback legacy. The pressure is real: both Brett Favre and Rodgers were 27 when they won their first Super Bowl, and guess how old Love will be this November? Yap – Happy 27th Jordan! At wide receiver, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and a healthy Christian Watson all battle to be the number one option. Their defensive trade move and opening the purse for Micah Parsons shows that Green Bay is all-in. Head coach Matt LaFleur has proven he knows how to maximize this young roster, and the Packers could even challenge for the division. Another playoff season, with a long playoff run, should be a safe bet.

The Chicago Bears made their most important move by hiring Ben Johnson as head coach, after he impressed as the Lions’ offensive coordinator. But running your own team is a new challenge. He inherits Caleb Williams, the potential franchise quarterback, but also the most sacked QB in the league last year. The GM office responded with offensive line upgrades, and the roster around him looks strong. Names like Rome Odunze, D’Andre Swift, D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, Colston Loveland, and Joe Thuney give Chicago a balanced attack. With a new mentality and fresh playcalling, the Bears could finally step up in the Windy City.
Prediction:
- Detroit Lions
- Green Bay Packers
- Chicago Bears
- Minnesota Vikings

NFC South Preview 2025
On the other end of the “most exciting NFC North” lies the NFC South, which might be the least interesting division in the conference. Still, there are a few storylines worth noting.
The Buccaneers remain the number one candidate to win the division. Baker Mayfield is back, along with star wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, who is chasing history as he looks to surpass Jerry Rice with a 12th consecutive 1,000-yard season. With Mayfield at the helm, only injuries seem capable of stopping that plan. The defense got reinforcements this offseason, and with a slightly easier schedule, the Bucs are aiming for around 10 wins, which should be enough for another playoff berth.

The Falcons finally committed to Michael Penix Jr. as their quarterback, though the decision came a bit late last season. His strong finish, with his connection to Drake London and the presence of Bijan Robinson in the backfield, makes Atlanta hard to write off. If Kyle Pitts finds his ”mojo” and Darnell Mooney adds to the receiving mix, fans could have more reasons to smile. The concern, however, is defense. Atlanta lacked a reliable unit last year, and without big upgrades, that could cost them the division, even if a wild-card push is possible.
The Panthers remain a mystery. Bryce Young showed flashes of why he was a top draft pick, but consistency is the question. Xavier Legette looks ready to be his favorite target, but they traded valuable veteran Adam Thielen to the Vikings. The offensive line should give Young enough time so the season will depend on his growth. Realistically, this looks more like a development year, a chance to prove they can be competitive in 2026 rather than aiming for a serious run now.

The Saints face more questions than answers. The schedule gives them a chance to start well – games against the Cardinals, 49ers, and Seahawks could put them at 3-0. But those same games could just as easily go the other way, leaving them struggling. Quarterback clarity is still missing, Chris Olave’s health remains a concern, and while Alvin Kamara continues to carry the load in the run game, it’s unclear how long he can do it alone. All of that makes a playoff push unlikely.
Prediction:
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Atlanta Falcons
- Carolina Panthers
- New Orleans Saints

NFC West Preview 2025
Last year was a big disappointment for the 49ers. After falling short in the 2024 Super Bowl in overtime, expectations were still sky-high, but the season went downhill quickly. Christian McCaffrey was injured, and without him, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk couldn’t carry enough of the load for Brock Purdy. Now, Deebo is gone to Washington and Aiyuk is missing training sessions, leaving questions about who will step up outside of George Kittle. Time for Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall to prove they can handle bigger roles. McCaffrey remains the most dangerous weapon, but his health is critical if San Francisco wants another playoff shot. On defense, Robert Saleh has returned to the unit he built years ago, and his influence is already visible, especially after the 49ers used their first five draft picks on defense. The schedule favors them, but health and young player development are the real keys.

The Rams could be one of the more interesting teams this season. The arrival of Davante Adams brings instant star power, while Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Kyren Williams form a dangerous offensive core. The concern, however, is the defense, which allowed too much last year. The Rams did add reinforcements in the offseason, and with Sean McVay’s creativity on the sideline, a playoff return is a realistic goal.
The Cardinals depend heavily on Kyler Murray’s health. If his knee holds up, he has the dual-threat ability to keep defenses off balance. The last year’s addition of Marvin Harrison Jr., one of the most exciting rookie receivers, gives Murray a true top target. Combined with his running ability, this could finally push Arizona into the mix. The offseason was busy, expectations are rising, and with an easier schedule, the Cardinals could be a surprise team if the defense holds up.

The Seahawks have made a big change at quarterback, moving from Geno Smith to Sam Darnold. He’ll throw to Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, while Kenneth Walker leads the rushing attack. The offensive line remains the biggest question mark, as protection will decide how effective this group can be. On defense, Seattle’s trademark physicality should remain, but the ceiling will depend on whether the offense can stay consistent.
In this division, the race could easily go down to the final week, with just a win or two separating the teams.
Prediction:
- Los Angeles Rams
- San Francisco 49ers
- Arizona Cardinals
- Seattle Seahawks
