Premier League Matchday 11 Review

Matchday eleven of the Premier League 2025/26 season was an instant classic. The heavyweights dropped points, there was success for a few big clubs, while there was only one goalless draw. It was a week wherein Manchester City eased past Liverpool to stamp their authority over the Reds. Tottenham were held to a draw by Manchester United, while Arsenal also dropped points. Let’s take a quick recap of all the drama. 

Key Match Summaries

The biggest highlight this week was Manchester City’s meeting with Liverpool. Erling Haaland continued his goalscoring streak, a masterclass from Jeremy Doku and Nico Gonzalez’s goal was enough to secure a 3-0 win.

A dramatic finish at Tottenham Hotspur stadium saw Spurs salvage a point against Manchester United. Bryan Mbeumo had put the Red Devils ahead before Mathys Tel and Richarlison scored to give the hosts a 2-1 lead inside the added time. Mattijs de Ligt scored virtually from the last play of the match to snatch a point for Ruben Amorim’s side. 

League leaders Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by high-flying Sunderland. Brian Brobbey scored right at the death to steal a point for his team. Daniel Ballard had broken the deadlock before Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard turned it around.

Chelsea piled more misery on Wolverhampton Wanderers as the Blues prevailed 3-0 thanks to goals from Malo Gusto, Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto. A resilient first half display was undone in the second half for Wolves as they remain winless. 

The biggest surprise result this week saw Aston Villa hammered four goals past Bournemouth. Emi Buendia and Amadou Onana put the hosts two goals ahead at the break. Ross Barkley and Donyell Malen scored after the restart to help the Villans move to sixth place. 

Brentford handed Newcastle United their fifth defeat of the season by winning 3-1. Igor Thiago scored a brace in the second half after Kevin Schade equalized for the Bees. Earlier Harvey Barnes had put the Toons ahead but Dan Burn receiving his marching orders complicated matters for Eddie Howe’s men.

West Ham United picked up their third win this season as they defeated Burnley 3-2. Zian Flemming opened the scoring before Callum Wilson, Tomáš Souček and Kyle Walker-Peters put the Hammers three goals to the good. Josh Cullen’s late effort gave the visiting supporters something to cheer for. 

Everton defeated Fulham 2-0, while Nottingham Forest picked up their first win under Sean Dyche as they beat Leeds United 3-1.  

Standout Players and Performances

With a goal and three key passes to his name, Jérémy Doku (9.5) was the best rated player on SofaScore. Alejandro Garnacho (9.2) bagged two assists and was richly rewarded for his heroics. Igor Thiago (9.1) scored a brace and also earned the Player of the Match award.

Emiliano Buendía (8.5) and Pedro Neto (8.4) both dazzled on the flanks for their respective clubs. Emi Martinez (8.2) was the pick of the lot among goalkeepers, having saved a penalty apart from three saves. 

Amadou Onana (8.2) and Nico González (8.3) ran the show for their respective teams and were the best rated midfielders this week. 

League Table & Impact

Arsenal saw their lead atop the Premier League standings cut down to four points after their stalemate. Chelsea have risen to third place, two points behind City. Sunderland are in fourth place ahead of Tottenham. Villa leapfrogged Manchester United, while Liverpool have slipped to eighth place. Bournemouth and Crystal Palace round off the top ten.

Brighton and Brentford, along with Everton and Newcastle occupy the mid-table berths. Fulham, Leeds United and Burnley are just above the relegation zone. West Ham, Nottingham and Wolves remain at the foot of the table. 

Injuries and Suspension Updates

Benjamin Sesko (knee), Casemiro and Harry Maguire suffered injuries against Tottenham and will be evaluated further. Randal Kolo Muani suffered a jaw injury and has withdrawn from France’s World Cup qualifiers. Freddie Potts suffered from a dead leg injury, he should be available next week confirmed Nuno Espirito Santo. Marc Guehi and Nick Pope will also miss England’s fixtures with their respective niggles. Joelinton suffer a shin injury while Dan Burn will be suspended after his red card.

After a short international break, Premier League action will resume with matchday 12 on 22 November. The biggest highlight will be the North London derby as Arsenal will host their crosstown rivals Tottenham. Manchester United will welcome Everton to the Theatre of Dreams.Manchester City will travel to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle while Liverpool will host Nottingham at Anfield. Chelsea will also be on the road as they take on Burnley. Bournemouth will face West Ham, while Wolves will take on Crystal Palace. Brighton are scheduled to meet Brentford whereas Fulham face the tough test of Sunderland next. Leeds will take on Aston Villa.
