For the third year in a row, we present Sofa Awards – online awards we award to the best players of the year based on various statistical categories and our features.This year we have the most awards so far – 13.
The first prize, The Artist, goes to K. De Bruyne for the best playmaker in 2020.
We kick-off our 2020 Sofa Awards with The Artist – the award for the best creative player, and it goes to Kevin De Bruyne! He was the brain behind Man City’s and Belgium’s triumphs in 2020, which made him synonymous with the word “playmaker”.
Next up is The Sprout, our award for the highest-rated teenager, which this year is Lassina Traore! 👶
Ajax’s striker may be remembered for his performance against VVV-Venlo (5 goals and 3 assists), but he had a strong 2020 overall.
Our Blazing Boots award for the hottest heatmap of 2020 goes to Manchester City’s Rodri! He registered 178 accurate passes and 195 touches in a Premier League match against West Ham on 19 Feb – both a record in our entire database this year!
We continue with The Magnet award for the best dribbler in football!
His skills with the ball are well known, his dribbling percentages are sky high – it’s Wolves’ and Spain’s Adama Traore!
Our 2020 winner of The Dispatcher award for the best passer is Joshua Kimmich!
He’s been an instrumental part of the club that won every available trophy in 2020, excelling in his first full calendar year playing in the middle of the pitch.
Our The Catboy award for the best goalkeeper of 2020 goes to Bayern München and Germany’s star Manuel Neuer!
He reminded everyone he’s football royalty even at age 34 with some brilliant performances in an incredible year for the Bavarians!
Our 2020 Space Interpreter is Atalanta’s and Argentina’s Alejandro Gómez!
He mixed playmaking and roaming around the final third with the great success to lead his club in their fantastic year – well done Papu!
The Engine is one of our new Sofa Awards, going to the player with the biggest influence on his team – this year that’s Sergio Ramos!
Real Madrid were just a shadow of themselves when he wasn’t in the side, proving he truly is their engine!
Another new Sofa Award for 2020, The Vintage, goes out to the top-rated player over the age of 35!
This 39-year-old needs no introduction, as his fantastic play does the talking – it’s Zlatan Ibrahimović!
Another unique SofaScore award is The Superhero, which we just had to give to Marcus Rashford for his amazing work off the pitch. 🦸
He is a remarkable footballer, but an even better human being, which he showed with his charity work this year.
Going back to our awards for on-the-pitch success, ‘The 2.0’ award for the biggest improvement in our Attribute Overview goes to Alphonso Davies.
He has been the breakout star of 2020, impressing the footballing world at just 20 years of age!
The Hitman award is reserved for the best finisher in football, and there’s little doubt about that one – it’s Robert Lewandowski!
He brought goals, goals and more goals every time he stepped on the pitch, displaying remarkable goalscoring talent.
Our final award is The Absolute Statsman, for the player with the highest SofaScore statistical rating in a calendar year.
He’s still very much at the peak of his powers, putting up brilliant performances on a weekly basis – it’s Lionel Messi!
