The Most Objective Football Award: Sofascore Names Players of the Season

As Europe’s top leagues wrap up the 2024/25 season, one individual award continues to stand apart from the rest – Sofascore’s Player of the Season Award. Powered entirely by in-depth performance data, the award is recognized across the football world as one of the most objective and reliable indicators of elite player performance.

No voting. No panels. Just data.

While many individual awards in football are influenced by reputation, fan voting, or narrative, the Sofascore Player of the Season is built differently. Each winner is selected only based on performance, calculated through hundreds of live in-game statistics collected across the entire season.

From goal contributions and pass accuracy to defensive actions, positioning, and technical precision, every aspect of a player’s match is analyzed, and rated. The result? A fair, global award that recognizes impact over image.

“We created the Player of the Season award to reflect what’s actually happening on the pitch – not in voting booths or comment sections,” said Branimir Karačić, Chief Marketing Officer at Sofascore. “It’s about data, consistency, and true performance. Players earn it, not win it by popularity.”
