Twitter reacts to Chelsea’s big-money bid for Arsenal’s Oxlade-Chamberlain

Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay £35m to land the versatile England midfielder, leaving fans quite bamboozled.

Premier League fans just can’t believe that Chelsea are offering £35m to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

The England international, 24, has emerged as one of the defending champions’ top targets this summer as manager Antonio Conte attempts to beef-up his threadbare squad ahead of a demanding season.

Several outlets, the Guardian, Mirror and the Telegraph included, report that the Blues have bid £35m for the winger, with Liverpool also said to be interested.

Despite his versatility – ‘the Ox’ can play as a wing-back, a winger or a central midfielder – plus his Premier League experience, they firmly believe it would be “ridiculous” for Conte’s men to cough up such an amount.

Wenger: Oxlade-Chamberlain must stay

Meanwhile, while Arsenal fans are busy collecting £35m from Chelsea, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to see Oxlade-Chamberlain remain in Arsenal colors.

The Frenchman has always valued the winger highly, and has asked him to repay the faith Arsenal have shown in him by signing a contract extension.

“I want Alex to stay at the club and be one of the big players of the future of the club, he’s one of the players the team has to be built around in future,” Wenger told his pre-match conference for Sunday’s testing trip to Liverpool.

“I want him to commit to the club and be one of the carriers of this team.

“I know of every bid we have, of course, but I think it’s best to focus on Sunday’s game.

“We invested a lot of time and money and confidence in players like Chamberlain and for me he has a responsibility to the club.

“I want to keep my best players – my only target is to keep everyone on board. I hope he commits.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain, just like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, is in the last year of his Arsenal contract, but is said to be mulling over a fresh £180,000-a-week deal.
