Sofascore Turns 15: Celebrating 15 Years of the Platform Fans Love
Fifteen years ago, two friends, Zlatko Hrkać and Ivan Bešlić, started working on a small project to solve a simple problem for football fans: finding fast and reliable live scores. There was no big plan, no overnight pitch, just a simple idea and a lot of late hours spent building something they wished existed.
What began as EuLiveScore slowly grew step by step. More people joined, the product kept improving, and over time the name Sofascore became familiar to fans across the world. Nothing about the journey was instant. It was steady, hands-on work from a team that cared about making the experience better every year.
Today, Sofascore is used globally by people who want quick results, clean stats, and modern football insights. And as we celebrate our 15th birthday, we’re looking back at some defining moments that brought us here.
2010 – Launching Our First Live Score Feed
The story begins with EuLiveScore, our first website for live score updates. It was simple, but it did exactly what fans needed at the time: show scores fast and without distractions. For the small team behind it, this was the moment everything truly started.

2010 – Our First Employee Joins
That same year, Josip Stuhli joined the team as the very first employee. Today he’s our CTO, but back then it was all about solving problems one by one and building the product from the ground up. His arrival marked the start of Sofascore becoming a real team effort.

2011 – The First Mobile App Arrives
A year later, we released the first mobile app for Android and iOS. It changed everything. Suddenly, fans didn’t need to sit in front of a computer to keep up with matches. Live scores traveled with you, on the bus, at work, or anywhere you tried to sneak in a quick check.

2012 – From EuLiveScore to Sofascore
In 2012, the name changed to Sofascore. It gave us a clearer identity and set the tone for what the platform would eventually become. It wasn’t just a rename, but a step toward building a brand that fans would recognise instantly.

2013 – One Million Monthly Active Users
Reaching one million monthly active users was the moment that proved people genuinely trusted the platform. For a small team, it was a huge signal that the work, the long days, and all the improvements were worth it — and that the audience was growing fast.

2015 – Sofascore Rating Goes Live
In 2015, we introduced the feature that would define us for years to come: the Sofascore Rating. It started as an ambitious idea, to evaluate every player’s performance using a consistent, data-driven method. Since then, the algorithm has rated over 3 million players, helping fans understand matches in a clearer and more objective way.

2016 – The First Generation of Sofascore Academy Graduates
This was the year the first group of students completed the Sofascore Academy, our in-house program focused on technical education. What began as a small initiative quickly grew into a long-running program with hundreds of graduates. More than 40 of them joined Sofascore, shaping the product with the skills they developed inside the company.

2018 – Our First International Employee
2018 marked the moment we stepped outside Croatia. Our first international colleague joined from Brazil, setting the tone for a more global team culture. Today, Sofascore has people working from over 10 countries, all contributing to the same product from different corners of the world.

2020 – Sofascore Editor Launches (Now Torneo by Sofascore)
In 2020, we introduced our tournament management tool for lower leagues and youth competitions. Today known as Torneo by Sofascore, it has grown into a key part of our platform. Teams and organisers now use it to manage competitions, track players, and record over 1.2 million matches featuring more than 150,000 players.

2020 – The First Player of the Season Trophy
The same year, we delivered our first Player of the Season trophy. It became our way of recognising players who reached the highest Sofascore Rating in their league. What started as a simple idea grew into a global award that players proudly share with their fans.

2022 – A Full Brand Refresh
In 2022, we didn’t change our name, but we changed almost everything around it. The entire visual identity got a fresh look, a cleaner logo, new colours, and a design system that made the whole platform feel more modern. It was a big step in showing who we had become after more than a decade of work: a global sports platform with a clear identity.

2024 – Introducing the Feed
This was the year we added something new to the experience: the Sofascore Feed. For the first time, fans could follow stories, insights, and community-driven content directly inside the platform. It brought sports fans closer together and created a space where news and discussion live next to live scores and stats.

2024 – The Team Reaches 300 People
Every new feature, improvement, and idea across these years has one thing in common, the team behind it. In 2024, Sofascore reached 300 employees, a number that would have sounded impossible back in the EuLiveScore days. The Feed milestone, and every one before and after it, exists because of this growing group of people working across many countries and specialties.

2025 – 35 Million Monthly Active Users
Twelve years after celebrating our first million, we reached 35 million monthly active users. It’s a number that reflects the trust fans place in the platform and how much the audience has grown worldwide. From small beginnings to a global community, it’s one of the clearest signs of how far Sofascore has come.

2025 – CBS x Sofascore Player of the Season Award Show
Our latest milestone brings us to 2025, when we partnered with CBS to air the first Player of the Season Award Show. Held in Zadar during the Sunset Sports Festival, the event introduced a broadcast-level celebration of the award that started years earlier as a simple idea within our team. It was a moment that connected our data approach with global storytelling.

And This is Just a Beginning
Looking back at the last 15 years, the journey from a small live score website to a platform used by millions feels both long and unbelievably fast at the same time. What began with two friends and a simple idea has turned into a global product trusted by fans, players, coaches, and communities around the world.
Some things have changed, the name, the design, the scale, the features. But the core remained the same: build something useful for sports fans and keep improving it every single year.

As Sofascore turns 15, we’re proud of every step behind us and excited about everything ahead. The last decade and a half were shaped by passion, teamwork, and a lot of learning. The next 15 will be shaped by the same values, just with even bigger goals.
