The league is among one the top leagues in Europe and takes place every year, usually from October to June. A1 tournament structure
The A1 league consists of 12 or 14 teams that play two times with each other in a regular season. The best 8 teams qualify to the playoffs and the knockout rounds, and the worst performing team is relegated to the A2 league, the lower division. The teams in the playoffs’ quarterfinals move to the next stage when they win two games against the opponent. The semifinals and finals are played on the best of 5 schedule, that is, the team that wins three games moves to the next round or wins the championship.
